WikiDay is an editorial almanac project that publishes a Wikipedia-style entry for every calendar day of the year. Each of the 366 entries covers, in a consistent structure: widely-documented historical events, notable births and deaths, civic and religious holidays and observances, the day's astronomical context (solar declination, season, distance from solstice), numerical curiosities (day-of-year position, factorisations, palindrome dates) and a curated set of external references to the major encyclopaedias, almanacs and primary sources.
The site is independent and unofficial. It is not affiliated with Wikipedia, the Wikimedia Foundation, Encyclopædia Britannica, the U.S. Library of Congress, NASA, the U.S. Naval Observatory, or any other organisation referenced from these pages.
Editorial principles
- Sourced. Every page links out to the standard external almanacs and encyclopaedias for this date; visitors are encouraged to verify and read further at the original sources.
- Brief factual statements only. Historical entries are short editorial summaries written for identification and orientation under fair-use principles. Long-form prose, copyrighted media and original research remain with their original publishers.
- Computed, not faked. Numerical, calendrical and astronomical data on each page is derived from documented standard formulas (e.g. Cooper's solar declination, ISO 8601 week numbering) rather than asserted as fact without provenance.
- Cross-referenced. Every day links to its prev/next neighbours, to the same day of every other month, and to nearby days by day-of-year position, so readers can navigate the calendar laterally as well as chronologically.
